I saw the endo specialist on Wed last week and based on dr and my gyno reports he's booked me in for a laparoscopy and to remove a cyst on my right ovary for Tues. (he wanted to do it Mon but that's our ds's 3rd birthday)
I've been booked in as a day patient with the hope that the symptoms I have and what's showing on the ultrasound isn't endo and he'll just have a look and remove the cyst , but if he finds anything I'll be transferred up to the ward and have to stay in.
How long did you stay in hospital for a laparoscopy? My last one was in 2003 and they removed a cyst from my right, scar tissue from both ovaries and had to do a partial bowel discection due to lesions. I think I was in for 3 nights? Can't remember anymore!
I'm sooooo glad I found this website! It's so nice to know that other people understand what I'm going through, friends and family sympathise but just don't seem to really get it.
I am sorry you have to go through surgery again. I dont know how the healthcare system is in WA but I have had several laps, removal of uterine polyps and ovarian drilling (x1) done and all 7 occasions it was day surgery. In a private hospital however it is not uncommon for patients to stay overnight. I wish you all the best for your upcoming surgery.
I agree with Hayley it largely depends on what they need to d during surgery. Ive had 9 ops all up, most were day surgery, a couple overnight and one big 4 night stay.
I'll pray that your is a simply procedure that (a) doesn't find any endo and (b) allowing you to go home that day back to the birthday boy.
Thanks for your well wishes, op went ok I think. I don't get results until Thurs next week when I have appt with dr. All the nurses could tell me was that it went for about 45mins.
Recovery was terrible, the worst I remember. I was in so much pain and begging for something to relieve the pain, they gave me an injection but it didn't totally get rid of it. I went home that night, a bit ****ed off at the nurses! As I was in the day ward they got to go home when I did and I was one of the last to leave at about 7:30pm. I barely remember getting dressed and going home, hubby had to help me put clothes on and hold me up on the way out!?!?! Bless the medical system in Aust!!!!
Pain still there but not too bad, I'm up and about now, which is good.
Waiting for the results sucks though! On the upside, I guess if he'd found anything major the dr would have called to let me know???
I had a lap and hyster to remove a sub-septum in my uterus a cyst, the dye test and a D &C just to clean everything out and I was home just after lunch time. As one of the other ladies mentioned. I didn't recall anything the FS said after the surgery or getting home. Thankfully for DH he told me everything that happened the next morning.
How did it all go? How are you going now....? I had my op in January this year and am still having very complicated months.... not sure what to do from here. I am 37 and desperately want a baby so time is running out... Hope you are going well
It went well, the recovery was not the best but the results were the best I could have hoped for. They removed the cyst from my right ovary, unfortunately they had to cut and stitch my ovary back together. Other than remove the cyst all he found was old scar tissue and lesions that needed to be cut out, dr thinks this was prob what was causing most of the pain, being sticky and organs sticking together. eeeewwwwww.
So, now we're back counting days! I've registered with Fertility Friend to try track my cycles myself rather than pay for blood tracking, but I also have an appt to start IVF at the end of Feb if nothing has happened by then.
Again, thanks so much for thinking of me and asking
Glad to hear the op went well. Sounds like a good plan you have there. I wish you all the very best with TTC and hope the journey is short for you.
On a side note, dlrsummer, can I recommend you contact / see a dr in Sydney that specialises in endo , he is fabulous. Dr Michael Cooper of Macqaurie Street Sydney. He is not cheap but IMO the very best and he is close to you so I thought I would mention it. I travelled hours to see him and would do so again in a heartbeat.
