Hi just introducing myself, I suspect that 1/2 of our 1-15th Dec belly buddies group are soon to join as we've been a busy bunch (will mention it on our other board).
My name is Diana and DH is Justin. Our first child was born on the 21/11/2008 at 0022, a soon to be named little boy. I am still debating spelling at this point.
We are in Canberra but spend a lot of time in Sydney as I have lots of family there. Other than bub and DH I also share my home with two very funny dogs.
What else?
I am now offically a WAHM who is currently more mum than worker. I have an online business with my Mother as well as doing website design and IT freelance work to make ends meet.
Our little man is a champion sleeper and really enjoying his food (a little so enthusiatically as mums boobs are sore now - but we're still trying. Thank goodness for nipple shields and expressing).
Well thats a good starting point. I really have found the support on the Belly Budies group fantastic and hope it continues here. If anything it is great to be able to find out what others are going through at the same stages as it helps me put things back in perspective so I can normalise a very new situation.
MIT - Diana
hi guys
My bub was born on November the 15th, but I hope it is ok if I join this group?? I already know MIT and mini- hi guys!
mini- did you have a home birth?
My waters broke at 37 weeks and went in the next day to be induced. Mia got stuck at 5cm, so had an emergency c sec.
All is going well apart from an infected C sec scar, which I am on antibiotics for.
Looking forward to chatting with other Nov Mummies soon!![]()
Hello girls....good to see some familiar faces in here!! I'm also a member of the 1-15th Dec belly buddies group. My third son was born on the 19th of November at 1.54 pm by c-section. He weighed 9 pounds, was 51.5 cm long and 2 weeks early. His name is Ochre Jhuna (pronounced Oh-kah Jew-nah). He has two big older brothers. We've been home for 4 days now and loving it. Ochre has been a great little baby so far...sleeping and breastfeeding well. I look forward to chatting with the Nov babies mummies too![]()
Hi girls, great to see some people in here. I was 38 +3, basically I was in the hospitla for less than 2 hours and out came Rebecca. I had her in the bath, which was different...in a good way. It did help me relax a lot more. My dd1, Olivia, was born in the same hospital but I had her laying on my back. Olivia was birthed over 15hours, rebecca totalled 6hours. Rebeccas was very intense.
About me, I am a sahm, usually I work in mental health...dont hold that against me!!! I am married to Adam whos an electrician and has his own business and at the moment I am doing his books, so that keeps me busy. Olivia is 19months old...born on April fools day last year. Shes a fantastic kid whos been through a bit. She had hip dysplasia and was in a harness for 6.5 months, now her feet turn in, but other than that shes well.
Rebecca will have to have follow up to make sure her hips are ok. She was born with positional tallipies, basically her foot was twisted from sticking in my ribs for so long. It has got better with massage, however will need to keep at it for a while. Shes not a great feeder and we have been to the lactation day stay today for some help. Am really keen on b/f this time around as it didnt work for Olivia. She sleeps reasonably well.
Ok...better go, bed time for my big girl,
Love melissa
Melissa, Mia was born with a clicky hip, we have an ultrasound next month. The paed said she may need a harness also. How old was Olivia when she had the harness and was it hard to adapt to?
Had a bad night last night, Mia was up every 1-2 hours, and today she has been awake most of the day. So very tired. An so sick of visitors, I need a break from them!!
Hope everyone else is well xx
Well what a night, poor little Lucus was in tears from 10pm till about 4am when he finally got to sleep. I mentioned this on the Dec belly budies group so I'll cut and paste (very tired and any easy option is good).
Breast feeding is going well I think, there is a lot of milk there and I am using a Medela swing pump to help keep the engourgment down. Lucus ends up soaking wet if he waits too long to feed as I just leak all over the place. So I am now using a combination of breast (with or without shield depending on how sore I am) and expressed bottle feeding (love the Nuk teat as its reduced his wind). As for Lucus the poor little guy had a sudden flare up of nappy rash and the zinc creams just made it worse. Was on the phone in the early hours after non-stop crying since 10pm to Health First exhausting every option only to find out we'd tried it.
Luckily I'd been using Bicarb baths for myself and tried that on him which worked and I found a tiny sample tube of Bepanthen ointment in the final Bounty Bag given in hospital. That got us through to seeing the DR and now with the sigmacourt cream it is on the mend.
All I can say is I have never been so happy for a sample product in my life. That and I have never felt so useless as last night being unable to help make lucus feel better.
I feel a little like a cow and a lot like a playboy bunny - no idea what size i am up to now but it looks pretty impressive.
Ok thats it for now, I'm about to pass out and I think I might need dinner first.
Good luck tonight - I hope we all can get a little sleep.
Diana
MIT- Lol my boobs are massive too.
It is so hard to resettle M now. She doesnt cry or anything, she just lies there and makes noises, grunting etc. Then she will evenutally start crying. I dont know how we will go tonight, I cant say Im looking forward to it. And DH isnt very goodat resettling, i dont think he has the patience!
Hope everyone has a good (sleep filled?) night ...
Hugs MIT- Olivia had bad nappy rash too which bled and the sigmacourt cleared it up quick. glad b/f is going well. i am pumping now....one handed typing! I just wish Rebecca would stay on the boob, she fusses then sleeps....but takes the bottle`well...mmm.
Skye- Olivia was in the pavlick harness from 5 weeks til 8 months. initially it was hard but it didnt take long to get used to. i think it was harder for us to adjust. theres loads of things to re learn, but i wont tell you about that just in case you dont have to know. But if you do, I am more than happy to help you out in any way.
Ok- got to keep milking!!!
Night
Skye - i'm finding Ochre is doing the same thing - grunts, squirms, makes little noises if i put him in bed awake. luckily, most of the time he is asleep by the time he has been wrapped after a feed so he goes into his snuggle bed already dreaming. if i have to get him to sleep i usually make sure he's wrapped and then it's just a bit of time spent rocking and patting his bum - maybe some dummy action. but yeah patience is the thing - pity we have little of it in the middle of the nighthope you got some rest last night hon
mini - thanks for the tip for sigmacourt - will look into that as Ochre's bum is getting redder by the day. does Rebecca fuss at the start of the feed? I'm finding Ochre carries on for a good 5mins sometimes when I try to latch him on - he gets on then off, on then off etc....then finally starts sucking and is away.
mit - lol at the playboy bunnyafter my engorgement went down i almost freaked out that all the milk had gone...but they are back to being full and hard after only a few hours. and i know it's all working cos when Ochre pulls off out comes a heavy stream of milk!! with the wind we had a great night sleep after giving Ochre Brauers Colic Relief. I mentioned it in the Nov thread. Maybe give that a try? hope Lucus's bottom gets better poor love xx
Hi ladies thought i'd better get my but in here!
Im Simone, Mum to Theo 2yo and had Tallon on 23rd Nov 3:52am weighing 7lb2 and 52cm long (with less than 2hrs active labour!)
And i dont mean to brag but things are going BRILLIANTLY here!!!! he is feeding great and slipped into the routine naturally....yes i routine feed but its not the old 4hrs one....i Follow Gina Fords CLB routines...and they work a treat for me (for both boys so far)
No nappy rash, no wind, barely any spewy after feeds....only a bit of diahoerea as he's a guzzler (have to lie down to feed him otherwise he's done in 5mins....)
Sorry to report that sleep is great i wake him up myself once through the night otherwise he'd sleep right through i reckon.
Hope everyone gets some good sleep soon xoxo
How is everyone else feeding? Breast/formula? Routine/demand? And how is it working for you all?
Well last night was great. Fed her at 10, 12, 3, 6,9. I can deal with that! And after her feeds she went straight back to sleep, even DH did the 3am feed and got her to sleep.
Mini - thanks for the info. I do hope we dont need to use the harness, but if we do it would be great to have someone who can give some advice. We will see what happens.
I hear ya with the fussing during a feed. M always does that! I sometimes (umm ok usually) end up giving her a bottle. She loves the bottle!
littlelalla- sounds like we are doing similar things. I give M the dummy if she doesnt settle, sometimes she loves it, other times she doesnt really like it. Anything to help settle I think. lol @ the engorgement, I only had one night, when my boobs were hot and I felt like I had a fever, but then my boobs were fine, just bigger. I also had the heavy stream of milk...I was getting into the shower and felt my boobs flowing everywhere...TMI lol!
smoz- sounds awesome! What is the Gina fords routines? Im doing breast feeding and EBM in a bottle, whnever she gets hungry which is usually every 2-3 hours!
Hi Skye its a book called "The New Contented Little Baby" by Gina Ford, an english Nanny....she's been around since before Super Nanny, just not many people in australia know of her.
I feed Tallon at 10pm, 3am, 7am....and i have to wake him for the 3am feed.
You can get the book from most book stores or they'll order it in
Ok I think i've been a little stupid. I have the most amazingly bad headache (like nothing i've had in years) and can only link it back to lack of water and regular BF. I'm sure I read something about making sure your hydrated as it takes a lot out of you. At least I hope thats it.
On the up side at least my swollen ankles are down today, I feel a little less like a blob.
Oh I did have a question are any of you still getting period like cramping, especially durring a feed? Is there anything I can do about it or is it all just part of the fun.
Well DH is bathing little man, we realised that perhaps the "relaxing bath routine" might not have the same effect on Lucus. It just seems to trigger a 3 hrs change/bath/feed/change/feed/burp/cry cycle and i'd rather it ended BEFORE midnight rather than afterwards. Dont get me wrong I think he's geting used to it and even starting to enjoy it but it just wakes him up too much.
Well I'd better go help set up for the next change. Boy can little boys go through a lot of clothes even with a well placed facecloth or tissue.
mit - the pain you feel when you BF is your uterus contracting - and it only gets worse with each child! it's all good though as it is helping to get your stomach back to normal. it can be toe curling at times but soon goes awayoh i hear u on going thru the clothes - i think nearly everytime i change ochre he seems to do a wee that ends up soaking half his side! keep up the fluid as much as you can hon - we do need plenty of it to keep the milk supply going
smoz - you sound like you have a very happy, contended baby there..well donei'm fully breastfeeding ochre and although i feed on demand he seems to like it just about every 3 hours in the day (one 2 hour feed thrown in there usually around tea time) and then it can be 3/4 hourly at night. gosh 5 mins!! i wish mine was that quick. he takes his time - spends 25 mins on one side then might do 5 to 10 mins on the other if he is awake enough.
skyeblue - good to hear u had a great night hon. let's hope it continues. i also had a great night - ochre did a 4.5 hour stint then another 3 hours through the night - was bliss!!![]()
oh laura i wish he would take longer!!! at least then i know he's getting enough....atm im reasured bythe fact that he looks so drunk and has milk in his mouth that he can't seem o swallow he's that full....i guess my main concern id that he's a lazy sucker....
And i hear you on the pain getting worse with each child....i barely noticed with theo but this time i had to have pain killers to control it
oh btw laura...looking at your sig i LOVE your kids names!!!! they are so unique and gorgeous
thanks smozwe love them too! although the inlaws weren't too impressed to start with but they have grown on them!
i wouldn't worry too much about how quickly your DS takes to feed. i have a few friends who had babies like that. and as you said he looks so full and content...and he is sleeping like a gem so i think he's getting all he needs. you probably have a fast let down. do you boobs feel soft after a feed? i think mine is pretty slow as all my DS's have been long feeders. and i get mastitis problems so that would probably contribute to it. i'd much rather have a fast feeder...i feel like i am literally feeding all day - takes ages to feed him, burp him...feed him the other side and burp again. i'm usually out for the hour!! no wonder i nod off while feeding him in the night
