Induction Education and Information When used appropriately, induction can be a life saver. But sadly, we know from statistics that induction is at an unacceptable rate - far from medical or psychological need. If you would like information or to chat about induction, please post here.

Default Who knows about Acupuncture to induce labour?

Hi all,
I have had two amazing birth experiences so far. Grace was induced (only needed waters broken) and was 6hrs total, no pain relief...38weeks. Eve was natural waters breaking...37+weeks, 2hr labour (12mins of being uncomfortable and 2 pushes) no pain relief needed.

BUT

DH missed the 2nd birth...have never really gotten over it and i know that he is sad that he missed it......Do i try acupuncture this time when he is home for a few days (he travels away from home...) It is still messing with nature and i have never really been happy with having my waters broken with Grace even tho everything went so well.

It was and is so important to us that birth and after birth experience. Lucky for us he only walked in 20mins after the fact so we still got to go home 4hrs after and have a lovely night routeen. Grace excepted Eve so well and we have always put it down to the fact that life didnt change for her... I am having a homebirth this time so the girls will have me at home but i feel DH needs to be there not only for me, for himself the baby and the girls.....

Ahhhhh....what to do??

I would start acupuncture now, you can do preparation before induction and it will help prime you for birth. They look at everything in your body and see how they can help you be emotionally and physically redy for labour.

I used acupuncture to prepare my body for labour & for inducement. It didn't induce labour, but it sure came close... I would have mild contractions for a few hours after each treatment and I would get home & walk and walk and go up & down stairs... I did that a few times a week and then I also did massage. I think the acupuncture did help, and it definately helped prepare me for everything and got my body used to the motions for my VBAC, but it didn't start labour within 24 hours of treatment. I had 2 massages a few days prior to labour, but my acupuncture appointment was 5 days prior to labour.

HTH!

Thanks Kelly: I am having acupuncture now but just to "right" everything in my. I have had a lot of pain in my lower back due to an old injury so the acupuncture is helping beautifully with that. That is why i have faith that the inducion would probably work.......

Thanks Christy. Glad that your Vbac went well were you term?
