Default Ok, HELP needed understanding IVF!!!

Just got a call from the IVF clinic...

They did a blood test yesterday and called me about 5 minutes ago.

The nurse said that I was "still surging" and had not ovulated yet.

They have rescheduled another blood test for 7.30am on Monday morning (yep, the holiday Monday - just rang DH and he had a whinge about getting up so early - tough luck, he can cope!)

Obviously I feel rather disappointed, as I was hoping to start today.

Can anyone tell me what they mean, and what's happening?

they want you to do another blood test NEXT Monday? Isn't that kinda far off???

Just bring me up to speed, are you in the down reg part of your cycle?

Ok, this is going to sound kinda clueless, but...

I've been off the pill now since the beginning of the year. I generally get AF at the beginning of the month - last one started on the 8/09 - which made yesterday supposedly day 22.

Sorry Sushee, I don't know what 'down reg' means...

Meaning you're waiting for AF now before you start your FSH? So egg collection will be on your next cycle not this one?

(Phew I do understand)

Yep that's right - I just have syranel only - when I start it - until I have AF, then I have syranel and puregon injections to get my body ready to collect in the next cycle.

Okay so you're in the down reg part of your cycle and you still haven't O'ed. Okay, I now get what they aren't doing a BT until next Monday, because they just want to make sure you've O'ed and are in your luteal phase.

I don't know how the world works, but I am usually as regular as clockwork, and almost without fail, prior to a IVF cycle, I have a 'long' cycle where I don't O for ages. I don't know if it's the anticipation or the stress but it's like a trick our bodies like playing on us, just when the suspense is already unbearable, they drag it all out a little longer, just to torture us that little bit more!

Huge hugs, hun. I know the wait is a killer. I am sending loads of E2 vibes your way so that you can O already!

Same here Sushee..always have a weird cycle before IVF..its like my body is taunting me going HA HA!

What they are waiting for is to make sure you have ovulated before they start the synarel because synarel actually supressess ovulation and obviously we want to get this eggy out of the way first so you can get onto your next cycle...the stim phase...

Hang in there and little eggy it's time to come out now !

Thanks Sushee and Mel,

Given recent events at work and that this is my first time around on IVF, its probably not surprising my O has gone missing...

Luteal phase means the part of the cycle after ovulation, yes??

(sorry I am so clueless but I have never had to worry about this before, as I was generally on the Pill)

As you can gather my stress levels are rather high too - so expect more panicked questions when I don't understand!

release the stress, release the stress....or ovulation may be delayed even more!

Yep the luteal phase is the time between O and AF. Then between AF and O it's the follicular phase

Hang tight my sweet, you WILL ovulate. C'mon little eggy!

I have to say, definitely DO NOT stress! I watched my ovulation get delayed quite significantly while taking ovulation induction drugs simply because I was so stressed!

I've also got to say that with all of this going on, I can understand why some clinics insist on going on the pill for a bit... even though it was annoying as my body took up the habit of bleeding constantly while on it.

Gargy, don't worry about the stressed out questions - we've all had them at one time or another!

Just giving you an update - had a blood test this morning and the levels were where they needed to be. I will be starting Syranel tomorrow morning - probably at 6.30 so that I can keep going when I go back to work.

Thanks everyone once again for your support!
