Based on my experiences with scumshine,I am warranted in calling it whatever I choose to.this is an open forum for our OPINIONS and just because ONE person doesn't agree with what's said,doesn't mean they need to jump on a negative rampage about each persons negative OPINION!!! If some told u a bad experience about a hair dresser,u would stay away!!! Yes,sunshine is the 3rd in maternity hospitals...there arre still 1st and 2nd place as options..most people don't settle for 2nd best..especially when it comes children......

Sunshine actually has more options for care than other hospitals anyway.

They cater for high risk woman in obs clinics, midwife led care, midwife led care in the community and caseload options.

ok ok girls..

u all have something to say on this subject which is great but theres no point getting into a huge debate over it..

I dont know much about the sunshine hospital but i know my brother and sister were born there and my mum said it was fine. I have had big rows with our hospital here too and have been less than impressed but i still love them. Ur going to come across someone who u dont like and they dont have the right opinion about things that your after but hay thats life.

If i was in Melbourne when my waters break i wouldnt hesitate to go to the sunshine hospital.

In regards to renovations.. our hospy here was horrible and dirty and falling apart before all our reno's... i still would have gone there regardless..

You have every right to your opinion but the name calling like "scumshine" really isn't very nice. I'm not from there but I would find that pretty hurtful that's all? Does that mean you won't be going back to RWH because there are quite a number of "opinions" that indicate personal experiences that were absolutely horendous at that particular hospital? Not a rampage just don't agree with your opinion, and that's my opinion which as you have said, I am entitled to.

Not being from this side of town,I don't expect you 2 know the term "scumshine",that a lot of ppl refer the whole suburb and hospital as..I may add that its people that use this term that also have positive attitudes towards the hospital also...I would go back 2 RWH in a flash...in my immediate circle of friends,I have yet to hear a bad word said about them...and I know there would b some horror stories out there..my experiences there with DD were completley different to those of DS...with DS (2nd child) I was sent home with contractions being 3-5 mins apart and given 2 panadeine forte on an empty stomach and told 2 return if contractions got worse or waters broke..I was back there 5 hrs later and refused to leave...there options were 2 wait till next morning and induce me if nothing happened....after 14 hrs of fairly bad contractions and not dialating any further than 2cm,I demanded a c-section and in the end they had to do as an emergency as bubs was in distress... this hasn't detered me from going back there again if need be.....out of all the maternity hospitals in vic,RWH is the one that caters for prem births b4 32 weeks....I remember when I was hospitalised for 1 week with severe pre eclampsia with DD @ 38 weeks and was sharing a room @ RWH with a lady who was booked into sunshine but found to have placenta privea @ 29 weeks...where did sunshine send her??? The RWH of course...and where was her bubs born 2 weeks later?? RWH, as sunshine didn't have the facilities to deal with the pre term bubs....

ACtually mearcy and monash also take prems as they are also tertiary centres!!

sunshine takes babies after 32 weeks as they are a secondry hospital.

They have diff levels of hospitals to streamline care.

The RWH is going to be hard to book into unless high risk or in the area that they have set to accept woman as they dont have enought beds.

Don't even get me started on that Feeb A brand spanking new hospital, but what? no more beds? It makes no sense to me at all. Just like they built the new dental hospital, but there aren't enough chairs for all of the students to do clinicals

I don't think parking and lots of it relates to the care the hospital provides...which in sunshines case,is a disgrace....hahahahahhahahahahahahahahha

Mod Hat on: Please Please refrain from personally attacking staff at any hospital, if you've had a negative experience you can say so, but remember that one experience doesn't make a whole hospital.

Okay, so.... why I am saying this is I have had 1 horrible experience at a hospital with 1 midwife, and the same midwife attended my second birth with fantastic empowering results. Sometimes its not the 1 midwives fault but those around us. Thanks

The Recommendations and Discussions forums are for others to find out information about hospitals or birth centres that they may not have an opportunity to otherwise find out about. Constructive criticism of a hospital or birth centre is much more valuable to the women who post here than sensationalist comments.
  • Please refrain from calling the hospital discussed in this thread "Scumshine";
  • Please limit your contributions to useful information about your experiences in the hospital;
  • Please refrain from posting short "me too" style posts unless you have something constructive to add to this discussion.
Thank you.

Never said I wasn't from that side of town, I HAVE heard that term and I think the moderators have said it perfectly.

Back to the topic, anybody could give you a different version of thier experiences from hospital to hospital. Whoever you choose to go with at the end of the day is really a matter of doing your research, going with your instincts and hoping you have a good experience. Good Luck

I have great news! Luckily my FS has classified me as "high risk" as hoping to acheive a VBAC and will ensure me a bed at the RWH. That has to be the best news ever

I've just registered there, and am opting for the caseload midwifery program.
Apart from the fact that there are only 3 public hospitals near me, Sunshine is the only one to offer caseload as a model of care as far as I know.

I loved the hospital I went to last time, but its more important to me that I get continuituy of care, and the model of care that I want, than to have gourmet meals or a bigger room or anything like that.

hiya

i am also booked into sunshine - i am pregnant with twins and have been placed in the twin clinic under high risk. I am a little nervous but thats only because i am pregnant with twins - regardless of what hospital i go to i will be nervous about. There is so much more risk and complications with twins.

Feeb - i sent you a personal question regarding twins etc. Thanks for the info about Sunshine will only take after 32 weeks. I knew that they had a Special Care Unit but wasn't sure at what weeks i must be.
