Default Grobags - advice needed for first time user

Hi All,

I'm using a Grobag for the first time tonight for my 7 week old DS as he has outgrown the bassinet and am moving him into a cot - but he's a wriggler and I thought the Grobag would be better then I know he's always covered and not either out of or under the blankets.

But, am I a bit confused about what to dress him in and how much attention I have to pay to the exact temperature of the room???

He's in a 2.5 TOG with a long sleeve bodysuit, Bonds All in One and a singlet. It's meant to be 8 degrees tonight and his room is upstairs and we have no temp control or insulation. When he was in the bassinet he was in singlet, Bonds All in One, Sheet, Cellular Blanket plus another blanket.

I'd love some advice on what you are dressing your babies in under the Grobag and how you judged what was right for your baby.

??????HELP

Thanks

A 2.5 tog growbag is about 2 sheets, I think. So he's in about the same as he was.

My baby's guidelines is of no help at all - about 14 degrees outside at night and he's just in pyjamas. He crawls out of blankets or sheets because he gets too hot. Even as a tiny baby he was just vest, sleepsuit and sleeping bag. (And even then the sleeping bag had to come off some nights.)

Through winter my son is in a 2.5 with a long sleeve body suit and a long leg/arm body suit. He also has a sheet over him so he feels safe, but I think that needs to go now as he is moving around the cot.

If it's any help my health nurse said that overheating is a problem, not being a little cold so don't over do it.

I haven't used my grobag yet as it's too big and it's a summer weight one but I've used a few other sleeping bags. They would be similar to a 2.5 tog I think. I dress Brock in a short sleeved all in one suit or singlet with a warm fabric long sleeved and legged all in one suit. I don't place a sheet or blanket over him. Our house is pretty warm though and it probably wouldn't go below 16 degrees over night. He has comfortably slept that way since he was a couple of weeks old.

Jules, I've got a 1.0 TOG grobag (am in Perth too) and our bedroom gets to 15 degrees at night (according to the room thermometer). I dress DS in a singlet and a bonds wondersuit under the grobag. Then he has a sheet and one of those light soft furry blankets folded in half. He seems to be fine in this.

A lady working in a baby store once told me that a 0.5 tog G/bag was equiv to 1 cotton sheet; a 1.0 tog was equiv to 1 cotton sheet plus 1 cotton cellular blanket; and the 2.5 tog was equiv to 1 cotton sheet plus 2 cotton cellular blankets. Hope that helps. I am also in Perth and in winter dress my DD in a long sleeved Bonds wondersuit and put her in a 2.5 tog G/Bag.
