Pram for newborn and toddler

I really, really wanted to get a steelcraft strider dlx, but i think im going to have to go for something that has a toddler seat, or stand (skateboard is what I've heard it called). DS1 will be 3 and a half when this bub is born.

DS' pram doesnt take a toddler seat and its too big, I am wanting something that I can still go through the normal supermarket aisles in, so not a side by side. I think I'd prefer a proper chair, or a "stand" (some ive seen have like a disc at the front where the toddler can stand) than an add-on toddler seat.

Any suggestions?

For a 3 yr old I would get the skateboard thingy. toddler seats on 3 wheelers tend to be a bit iffy & can tip. Toys r us has a new thingy that is like a side car but then your making the pram wide....

I think your skate board option would be best.

*giggles* Ray! Why would they make a pram where the baby can fall out?! Sorry, I can't stop giggling here. I can just see the makers now:
- Roight, that's it then, finished the pram.
= It doesn't look too safe, look, the baby could fall out the back.
- Ahh well, you win some, you lose some.

(Nelle desperately hopes that Ray KNOWS I love her, and I do know that some prams can be less safe than they should be.) Okay, I'm done with my teasing now.

Despite the P&T being perfectly safe (I have one) - if you're looking at one for shopping...how about a baby carrier? I know that's not a pram, but I bought the P&T with the thought that I'd use it for both boys at the same time, but I find it heaps easier to wear Si in a carrier and then chuck Riv in a pram or trolley. There are exceptions - clothes shopping you don't really want to be taking the baby on and off, or if it's the middle of summer perhaps...

FJ could be onto something with the skateboard thingy, just depends on whether your older one will want to sit down, and whether you have a runner (my little sis was a runner, and was always firmly strapped to something or someone. ).

i know i only have 1 child but bought phil and ted beasuse i wanted to be able to keep same pram!!

i have the phil and ted.. and hope to use the bub in the laay down feature at the back very soon!!
it is safe.. i mean DD was in it as a baby and the toddler seat it on the front (not the back)... we have set it up like this for a month now to get DD used to being up higher in the toddler upright seat.

I have used it with my sisters newborn in the back flat and no probs!

I love my P&T as well! I think the newborn seat (in laydown position) is fantastic. It slightly rocks from side to side when walking, and it puts Emily to sleep everytime.
But for a 3 year old, they probably would prefer to walk, so maybe what FJ suggested.

yeah I am just thinking that a P&T is alot of money for a 3.5yr old. Need to think of your weight ranges too when looking.

I love my P&Ts but I have to admit that now that the boys are older it rarely gets used. I think a skateboard might be a better option for a 3yo. Also, as Nelle suggested, I would think about using a sling for the bub. Mine was the most useful thing I bought. I usually had baby in sling, toddler in the P&Ts or walking. So much easier, especially if you don't need a pram/stroller at all.

as a P&T owner i do agree it is a lot of cash for the ages you are talking about (sorry didnt really Ds was 3.5 yrs).

My dd is only 16 months and newborn.

Perhaps a skateboard attachment pram.. they look like great fun!

FionaJill - that was my thought too, he's already 16kilos and a lot of prams only go up to 17.

Nelle - lol you're a dag! I will try a sling with this bub. Milo hated his though, so I might try a different type this time.

I think we will go the skateboard option, I'll just have to find a pram I like that will work with it. Definitely going to the expo now, lots of reasearching to do

What age did you start using a sling with Milo? I found Glenn hated his too but he was 7 weeks when I got it. Had it from word go with Isla & she was fine with it.
So I wonder if its too do with how early you get them in them & use to it.

He would have been at least 8 weeks. I was too scared and didnt know how to use it til then (I had a hab) the times when he was in it it was great for my back, but also due to the weight i gained I really would have done better witht he larger size that they do.

ashley wouldnt at all go in a front sling (ie carrier) AT ALL.. we had to use a sling (babyrock) and it wasnt until she was 5 weeks

i was thinking that, my DS is nearly 17kgs and i think my pram only holds 18kgs. where can u buy those skatebrds for the prams?

I've seen them in target but you may need to go to babys galore or similar

Do you know what he didn't like about the sling Ray? Both my boys hated being carried in the cradle position (River especially - you couldn't even HOLD him in that position), so an upright worked best for us...but every bub is different. Keep in mind that a carrier can be useful for a looong time, Si's 6 months and I have him in a carrier a lot, Riv just turned 2, and mum and dad took him onto the Doulos in Geelong recently (a ship that's docked there at the moment) and mum wore him on her back in a carrier! So they can definitely be useful beyond the tiny baby stage.

-which P&T's pram is the best one to get if you do lots of walking outside on dirt roads etc.?
i am trying to decide b/w a P&T and a mountain buggy double, tia
