| Twins or More Just when we thought having one baby was tricky enough, mums to multiples often have extra challenges with two or more babies of the same age. If you are a mum to twins or more, this is where you can exchange experiences and support with others. |

Oh my giddy aunt...twins!!
Ok, I knew twins did happen (about 1 in 1000 births), and despite the fact that they run in my family, I never really accepted that it could happen to me...but here we are. 6 1/2 weeks along, and expecting twins...we already have a 10 month old little girl!
I must admit, I am a bit overwhelmed, and not quite sure how to feel (except extremely nauseous...all day, and hungry all the time...must be boys!!!)
How did you all adjust to the idea? What about purchasing two of everything??? Oh my gosh, so exciting, but very scary...

Congratulations!
What amazing news!
We don't have twins...but when I was at the baby store the other day, I heard one of the saleswomen say they do special discounts for families with twins...
All the very best!

congrats!
the best advice i can offer is to join your local AMBA club. they have great advice, ante-natal nights, and some even have playgroups which you can take you DD along to even before you have your twins. Twim mums are the most down to earth and sanity saving mums!!!!
Good luck!!!

Julesy,congratulations from a twin mummy.
Twins also run in our family and we found out at our 8 week scan we were having twins.
Being our first pregnancy we were ecstatic and excited that we were chosen to be parents of multiples.
People often ask how I cope and I reply that I don't know any different so to me this was normal.I take my hat off to any mum who has children and then have twins. That would be super-dooper hard work.
Join your local multiple birth association.I was reluctant to at first but when the girls were about 12 weeks old I did.Only another mum of twins understands what you are dealing with. They have playgroup, info nights, newsletters, lots of info that will help you.
I love when I go to the local shopping centre and you see other parents of multiples. We give each other a look and smile,"aaahhh I know what you are going through."
We bought 2 of most things when I was about 20 weeks pregnant and we had found out we were having fraternal girls. It can be a bit costly but now feel that I am set up if we are blessed with twins again next pregnancy.
Good luck Julesy with the rest of your pregnancy and feel free to ask questions anytime. There a few twin mummies on here that enjoy sharing their tips and stories.

Thanks Pansy, and everyone for your well wishes and encouraging advice. I will look into the AMBA soon and see what they are offering. I have started to feel more relaxed about it now, and I think we are gradually accepting the momentous task ahead of us. First things first...a bigger house!!!
Will keep in touch,
Julesy

Hi Julesy, that's great news!! We're in the same boat as you, we found out a week ago and it's taking a while to sink in!! Unlike you though we have no history of twins in our family, so it was a complete surprise.
I hope everything goes great for you and the nausea goes away soon
take care

Congrats Julsey !! I am 21 weeks with g/g fraternal twins. The nausea is due to the extra progesterone created with twins -- it is common and difficult. My nausea ended at my second trimester. I highly recommend eatting as much as you can now and especially when the m/s ends... you want to have two nice big babies born. While singletons are still able to gain alot of weight near the end of your pg, it is different for twin pregnancies. We have a harder time gaining weight near the end for two reasons 1. we go early 2. there is less room in there.
I have always mentally prepared myself for possible bedrest at 24- 28 weeks -- this means that you will need everything sooner. I spoke with a twin mom who had her babies at 26 weeks !!
Good luck !!

Oh gosh, bed rest at 26 weeks sounds divine, but alas I have a 10 month old little girl already (that's right...we'll have three under 2!!!), so I doubt I'll get to put my feet up much! My hubby in army and away a lot, and majority of the fam lives in Brisvegas! I think it's going to be a very tough year...
Thanks for all your well wishes and advice, I'll keep you posted!

There is a book in the U.S. (your dh might be able to get it for you -- or order it while abroad) it is called "When you are expecting twins, triplets or quads" by Dr. Barbara Luke and Tamara Eberlein. It is HUGE in the U.S. and alot of twin moms report some great results from the book. The focus of the book is on nutrition and it recommends gaining 24 lbs. by 24 weeks or one lbs per week. After the 24 weeks the book recommends 2 lbs per week. (2.2 pounds = one kilogram) I've read alot of twin websites message boards and women are reporting nice big babies (like 5 lbs and 6 lbs size) being born.
