Twins or More Just when we thought having one baby was tricky enough, mums to multiples often have extra challenges with two or more babies of the same age. If you are a mum to twins or more, this is where you can exchange experiences and support with others.

Default TTTTS during pregnancy.

Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome...

Hey there, im juts curious about getting some further info on TTTS as mum is 20wks with twins and they've just found the beginnings of the condition. Mum forwarded this email onto me last night and i was just wondering if anyone has any ttts experiences they can share, positive or negative, so i can pass some stories on to her...
I was wondering how quickly it can progress, whether or not you needed to be confined to hospital for the latter part of pg, etc... I've googled the condition, but mum and i have both been really overwhelmed by the information, so i though i'd see what i can find here for her....

Thanks

At this stage it is TTTS, but is also at mild stage. there is a definite reduction of fluid in one sac, so much so that she has her foot tangled in the sac membrane. That's why they refer to one of them as the 'stuck' twin. I have to go to the women's in Melb every week for ultra sounds to monitor the progress. Depending on how fast it progresses as to the road ahead.
As/If it gets worse I will have to have the laser treatment (which I think is in Queensland - Monique, you will have to come keep me company for the week or so it would take)
and further to that I can have some of the amnionic fluid drained (with one of them massive big needles they use for amniocentesis - YUK!!!).

The next step will be early delivery, by C-section (which I didnt want, but now know I have to have anyway) as close to full term as is possible and safe for both babies.

Am a bit stressed, but hoping that it isnt progressing too fast and that we can make it through til 30 or so weeks. I am 20 weeks now. they have to be more than 24 weeks to be considered 'viable' and for the hospital to offer medical assistance to them.

On a brighter note - I wish you could have seen them playing with each other in there. It is the most amazing thing to see 4 arms and 4 legs all kicking around at the same time. although they have their own sac, that can feel each other. It was a beautiful sight! I feel like I know them both already after seeing them so many times now. The one that isn't stuck is a wiggle worm!!! It never stops. Obviously this one takes after me and the calm, stuck in one spot one, takes after Wayne!!!

wow thats amazing that you and your mum are expecting around the same time

Anyway that's nothing to do with your question. I didn't have TTTS so can't help you myself. But try the AMBA website http://www.amba.org.au they might be able to give you more information

Just want to pass on my best wishes to your mum. Even with modern techniques, it can be a case of just hope for the best as each day goes by. TTTS can be scary so be good to her. It's great you are expecting at the same time.

Hugs to you both,
Debbie
