Hi my name is racheal and I am mummy to frank and max and they are 11 weeks tomorrow. While frank is progressing at breakneck speed eg smilling cooing and neck movement. Max seems to be a fair way behind. We have started seeing a chiro as he seems to prefer to keep his neck to one side all the time and doesn't like to lift it to the centre when on his tummy. He has started making some noise and smiling but only occasionly. My mother in law is convienced there is something wrong with him. All my health centre visit have being fine. Should I be worried?

All babies develop at different rates. I wouldn't be too worried.
If the MCHN isn't worried you shouldn't worry. Have you asked her about it?

I am a firm believer that most mums know best. Do you feel he is ok? If you are concerned i'd get a check up but if you feel he is ok then he prob is. Remember all kids develop at diff rates just because they are twins doesnt mean they are any diff

I agree with the others. All babies develop at different rates, and in different ways. Some are faster with physical milestones but slower at talking. Or vice versa. Even with siblings there can be big differences as to when milestones are reached.

I also agree with trusting your instinct. In this case I suspect that it is only your MIL's comments which are making you worry. In which case I would ignore your MIL - if my experience is anything to go by, MIL's are quite often wrong about what is and isn't normal with babies - they really seem to forget. But, if it is something that you "feel" yourself, that there might be a problem, then I would investigate further. Hopefully the chiro will make a difference to start with so that you can stop worrying.

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your twins.

I totally agree with the others. Trust your instincts but each child is different and will progress differently.

It is hard not to compare twins and there development but only a small amount of twins will actually do things at the same time. My two did thing weeks apart from each other.

You have to remember they are two babies and if born a year or so apart and not at the same time you wouldnt be thinking twice about timing at all.

It is good to get it into others heads early too that the are two little people and not one. This one is a hard one to get through to people sometimes.
