Expecting Twins and still in shock

Hi Everyone.

We found out we were having twins at our 7wk dating scan and I think i'm still in shock.

MS and energy levels have been atrocious and having to chase our 21mo daughter is tiring!

I thought i knew what we were going to do with our next baby but this twin thing has put the spanner in the works. We are so happy but a bit lost too.

Any good books/websites anyone can recommend? I just need to start somewhere...

I'm Odette mum to b/g twins who are 5 and another singleton on the way.

its a bit of a shock finding out there are a pair in there!
but hey us multiple mummys are hand picked- so its very special

as soon as you can - join your local multiple birth group- you usually need to be 20 weeks pg. Ours has a library you can borrow books for free, info sessions and heaps of get togethers to keep us sane! They also have a local newsletter with a classified section in to buy great twin stuff second hand. If you contact AMBA they will be able to put you in touch with your local contact

congrats and hang in there with the m/s. If it gets too bad, go straight to hossy. They can give you meds to help keep something down. Make sure you keep the liquids up as much as you can and sea sickness bands took a little edge off the nausea.

I can well remember the shock of finding out that there are two! I didn't sleep for a week after we found out at our 8 week dating scan.

The pregnancy is definitely much more demanding than a singletone pregnancy and chasing after a toddler whilst carrying twins is a challenge... don't worry though - you'll manage better than you expect to. Most twin mums I speak to seem to agree that it isn't as chaotic as they expected it to be. It's lots of fun and seeing the two cheeky grins is so special!

I have a few books I have read - 'Mothering Multiples' is a great breastfeeding one if you plan to breastfeed your two. and 'Twins' by Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryan is OK for pregnancy in terms of preparing you for what to expect. And 'Double Trouble' is a UK book which is fabulous for pepping you up for a natural labour and delivery if that's what you want. By the way, if you are planning a natural delivery, I recommend you hire yourself a private midwife. Both the public system and private OBs will try to railroad you into a highly medicated delivery.

If you can, join the AMBA forum - lots of twin mums there will eagerly share advice and help you out with questions.

Anyway, happy baking and congratulations again! You'll be amazed at the proportions your body can stretch to over the coming months!

I still remember the day we found out

Advice - research, research and more research. There are some fantastic information on the net plus some great groups. Read all the advice from other twin mums and then discard what you dont think you will need.

There should be a multiple birth group in your state that can point you towards some information sessions and groups. I initially joined AMBA and started to go to morning teas but I just didnt get anything out of it.

Another thing is not to exclude yourself from normal Mum's Groups. You can get all the same information there it is just you need double the advice

Hiya I'm in the same boat, I am 9 weeks along with identical twins in my belly!! I found out at 7 weeks also, I have a 5 year old boy and have also found it tiring and the sickness is just awful!! I will be checking out some of those books recommended, thanks for the tips ladies.
Is there any twin mummy's here in Tasmania, I know we are a wee ickle island, but there must be some twin mummy's somewhere on the isle.
