Default VBAC after EMERGENCY C/S???

Hi there,

Just a quick question.

Is the risks higher if you have a VBAC after an emergency c/s? I have had two natural and my 3rd was an emergency c/s because I had a clot on the placenta that ruptured when my waters broke...which then caused the placenta to come away, and consequently my DS's heart rate dropped to 60BPM and wouldn't come up.

At the time, they thought it was because the cord was around his neck, however my doctor said there was a bit of a mess in my uterus that he had to clean up.

Anyway, I healed really really fast (seriously fast...I am a machine!) and my scar is completely gone already.

What do you think my chances are of a VBAC? I haven't discussed this with my OBGYN yet as we weren't thinking of TTC#4 until January.

I would probably request seeing your notes from that labour & birth and go through them with a doula or midwife to understand your risks.

I had a VBAC after an emergency c/s. My c/s was due to failure to progress though, labour just stopped for 6 hours and then I went in for the c/s. In hindsight, it wasn't really an emergency, but the hospital declared any c/s that started with labour was an emergency and because I was in labour a long while before the c/s. So my risks for a VBAC were less than for my induced labour.

Get reading as well. Some great books are "Silent Knife" and "A Thinking Woman's Guide to Better Birth" they were my VBAC "bibles". They are on the BB reading list on the main site.
