Default Prenuptial agreement

Touchy subject I know, but I am getting married in March next year and I want to be sensible about it all. As far as I am concerned, what DP and I have we've acquired together, therefore that wont come into the prenup. I know its not the most ideal way to start a marriage, however I want to protect my inheritance money should something happen between DP and I. Am I being silly, selfish and all the rest? Has anyone gone down the path of getting a prenup?

i think you're being perfectly sensible. my ex, who earned five times as much as i do, sued for my paltry inheritance. and nearly got some!

DF and i have discussed it also, as i already had a mortgage and kids when i met him, and he's perfectly willing to do some sort of pre-nup.

i'm sure if you googled you'd find some sort of draft for one?

i would check whether you NEED a prenup for inheritance - there may be stipulations in the actual inheritance that would show it's for you alone esp if you invest a cash amount...

if your DP is happy to do a pre-nup regarding inheritance though, go for it. just realise it might cause some trust issues if you broach it with him..

I dunno, but i guess if the inhertance $ really means alot to you then thats fine to get something legal protecting it as yours and yours only no matter what happens. Hopefully your DF sees that as a fair request on your part and dosent get cranky with you about it or try talk you out of it.
Some people can split amicably and some people can just turn real nasty - you just dont knnow what the future holds.

We dont have a prenup. Personally if I were to have a prenup with DH, that would place trust issues between us. We vowed till death do us part and having prenup would mean that our vows would have been changed to 'till death or divorce do us part'

I agree with BG, check what the inheritance stipulates, and then discuss it with DF. If he feels that the prenup would be a good idea incase something major that tore the 2 of you apart did happen, then go for it. Please make sure you tell him that you wont leave him because you are bored with him, as this signals a communication breakdown, which can always be fixed.

Good luck hun.

Well my parents have asked me to think about getting a prenup, however I know they have also before mentioned that they saw lawyers about what would arise with this kind of situation so I would think thay would have it sorted? Hmm maybe better talk to them again. Personally I dont think my DP is the kind of person to do that sort of thing, however I've heard alot of scary stories. Its a hard one. Bl00dy money!!
