Hi Hj,
You poor thing. I had mastitis as well. It definitely hurts and in the end I had to give up breast feeding anyway because my daughter wasn't getting enough.
I found in the beginning when your baby is crying that you just have to do all that you can. Change nappy, burp, feed, cuddle until something works. It's hard in the beginning but after a while you do get in a groove of things. I know it probably doesn't feel like that yet, but hang in there and you'll see, things will work out
I think you and I live in the same area. I'm in River Hills, is that where you are?
My daughter Madison is now three and a half months old.
I hope things improve with your little girl . Take care hun.

Hi everyone, can I join this thread? Bub, Liam Samuel, was born 3 weeks ago today! October 17. I'll get around to updating my signature soon and adding pics. I know some of you from the 'bubs due October' thread, but I'm pretty bad at posting regularly so I stopped. Great to see your familiar names again and congrats to you all on your new arrivals.
HJ - I feel your pain. We've had nearly 2 weeks where we were lucky to have only 3 hours of non-stop crying and more like 5 - 7 hours. You think you should be able to know what to give your baby to make them feel better and its so frustrating that nothing works. He's been so much better the past couple of days. Possible reasons?:
a) we're getting used to it and aren't stressing as much?
b) we're getting better at making sure he's feeding early and getting plenty (I'm using nipple shields and am now starting to wonder if they've reduced my suply...?? So we're supplementing with formula if we think he needs it - we're using Lactogen coz its what DH got from the shop)
c) we've gotten better at soothing him? Before we were mostly just trying to attend to him, now I'm trying to get past his crying to settle him down and sooth him by keeping him close to me, etc. Not that we weren't trying to settle him before or weren't trying to sooth him... It's hard to explain. Anyway, today he's been grumpy all day, but we haven't had the long crying bouts. Yesterday was a dream. Don't know if that might open some avenues to help....?
Does anyone have any tips on how to increase milk supply? I'm trying to express if we ever give formula so the 'supply/demand' thing is still happening. Breast pumps suck! And yes, expressing is a pain in the !%#.
Anyway, I always write too much. sorry everyone.

hi hj
i hope you don't mind me jumping on, i saw your posts and i just wanted to say congrats on baby bianca! i'm so sorry your going through all the feeding dramas, just a thought - when i put dd on formula she really reacted to s26 gold and was really unsettled, her paediatrician said it is really heavy and some babies can't handle it - i found changing formulas seemed to help.

Hollye - I read your thread - and sending you lots of big hugs!! In the end you need to do whatever is right for you and Mia - so don't beat yourself up too much on which ever decision you make, as long as you both are happy.
I have a general question - does anyone else suffer from hot/cold flushes? I have been told that it is to do with the hormones that arrive with your milk but i can't believe how extreme they have been. I wake up dripping with sweat during the night and sometimes i get the shivers so bad i have to go to bed to warm up.

Kylie - i really dont want too put the jinx on u - but that is exactly what i had before my mastitis started! i sooooooo hope u dont get it! it really isnt pleasant - i wouldnt wish it upon anyone!
Hollye - i read ur thread - and i know exactly what u are going thru - and everyone told me what i am going too tell u - Do what u think is best! If ur finding breast feeding hard and mia isnt happy than change too formula - i really didnt want too do that - i was determined to breastfeed - but since i got mastitis and the doctor told me it was prob best for me too dry up my milk, and my husband agree'd and supported me i really havent been happier - and apart from a bad day yesterday neither has Bianca! she is getting soooo much more milk - Also DH is happy cause he gets too share in the feeding and getting up of a night time - it makes him feel more helpful! i have certainly chilled alot more and relaxed and im enjoying Bianca more - but i did go thru moments were i felt like i had failed her! and the first time i went shopping with her and went into a change room i broke down and cried cause everyone else was breastfeeding and i was bottle feeding (even tho it was expressed milk) if u have tried everything and its not working or making either of u happy - just change! honestly u wont regret it! I dont!
but in the end what every u choose is ur choice and it will be the right one!
We will all support u no matter what decision u make! xo
Joshnchloesmummy - of course i dont mind! and thank u for ur congrats!!!
i actually spoke to a friend last night and she said the same about s26! however Bianca has had a good day today and hasnt whinged much at all - and last night was good too - so was wondering if S26 didnt agree with her - would she whinge more - or is that something that takes a couple of days too take affect every so often? she had a good night last night also - prob cause she was sooooo exhauseted after her sooky day tho!
so how do i know if its definatly the formula?
1stBub27 - Hello and welcome to our awesome group, im prob being biast here but i would have too say its one of the best groups! everyone is soooo helpful and nice
and congrats on ur bubba boy!
and my gosh it sounds like ur having a fun time too! im glad ive only had one day of bad crying (touch wood)
I have no idea what yesterday was about - cause we havent necessarily been too stressed around Bianca - i was when i going thru the decission too change to formula - but DH hasnt been at all - so dont think that was the reason
im tossing up maybe the brand of formula (although last night and today has been good)
or i have read that when they are about too go thru a growth spurt they can tend to get restless and hard to settle! sounds funny i know - but hey i will go with it! sounds like the easiest option!
as for increasing ur milk supply i cant help u with that! hold on - threaten ur boobs that u are going too dry ur milk up! cause as soon as i got the pill to dry mine up and the mastitis they have been totally FULL of milk - Dripping milk BIG time!!!!! but i did try nipple shields and they didnt help with supply for bianca - however i totally agree with u on the expressing!
MumofMaddison - i did try nipple shields and it worked for a little while - than that got sore aswell - now the big decission has been made and im formula feeding - and im now more relaxed and much happier!
And we did all that stuff yesterday - hahaha - and it didnt work - thank god and hopefully it was only a one off!
And yep u would be right! we both live in the same area! how trippy is that? how do u know that?

HJ & Hollye - I thought about the possibility of mastitis, but i don't think this is it as i have been getting it since Logan was born. In hospital I would be so hot that sweat was dripping off me, and they would take my temp and it would be normal. The midwife told me to be concerned if i also had aches and pains or felt nauseous with it (which I don't). I will definitely keep a close check on it though. Thanks for your responses.

Hi everyone! I have been reading but no time for many personals - so sorry... Hi to all the newbies - lovely to have you here!
Kylie - I had the sweats really bad with Izzy and this time around tey have eased up already but I remember it all too well. I think it is the hormones and breastfeeding etc.... Hope it eases for you really soon hun.
Hollye - I agree hun. Happy mummy=happy baby. Do what you need to do hun, but definitely see if you can see a LC at your hosptial or MCH centre first to sort out any problems too.
We are doing well - James is feeding like a trooper but we are getting used to having a baby that spews all the time. So frustrating seeing all the goodness go to waste but he doesn't seem to stressed by it all thank goodness. He is sleeping a bit better at night too - I was getting up each time I heard him grizzle but we have realised that he is a really noisy/grunty baby so I have turned the monitor right down so I just hear him stir but will go in only when he is really crying.
Still loads of adjustments here with Izzy too - Im dreading DH going back to work, he will probably only have one more week off then I will be home alone with the 2 of them. As it is, we hardly get much done so I dread to think what I will get done on my own.
Off to have dinner to you all and I hope all our gorgeous ones give us a good nights sleep tonight!

HJ - u are a brilliant mum, keep up the good work sweety. Do u have any pics of her on here yet?
Kylie - yeh it could just be your milk coming in. I forgot u only had Logan 6 days ago. So thats what it would be. I had the same thing and i still do abit. My breasts always got pretty hot too... i thought it was quite strange lol mwah!! xoxo
just had quite a successful feed so feeling quite proud of myself.. going to relax for an hour or so before the next one.. wooohoooo for me and Mia!! fingers crossed for me girls!

One feed at a time Hollye - hang in there hun, you are doing a wonderful job! Izzy never chucked and James has had 2 MASSIVE projectiles today, one all over a GF who was visiting and then all over me and the couch. I can't believe how much milk comes out of him. It's crazy. I have a bib and cloth nappy and towel living on the couch now for all feeds to protect us both!

hey hj
you don't know if it's really the formula unless you change it - a bit of trial and error! i'm really glad to hear bianca had a better night and day . you might want to see how she goes for the next couple of days and if she's still having probs maybe changing it to karicare my dd really liked this and i have only just taken her off this at 13 mths!

Hollye - sounds like u are going to be fine a BFing! u seem too be getting better and better!
HEEEELLLLLPPPPPP - we had a Hellish evening and night yesterday and last night! just like the other day and tonight is looking the same! she wont stop crying!!!
we have brought her Karicare formula now - and she has had one bottle - due to have another at 2000ish - are we suppose to talk this formula stuff over with someone?
We have no idea who too talk to or ring - we were only given stuff on BFing and ppl to contact inregards too it! Nothing on if we had too stop BFing and change to formula - i dont think infants friend is helping her much
Also how many poo's in a day is she suppose too do?
i am sooooo sleep deprived and poor DH not only has too put up with Bianca crying but me crying also - i feel like everyday im failing at this mum thing more and more - and i never thought i would be like this!

HJ! you are doing such a great job, i bet it's not easy at all!!!
I've heard if you switch from Bfeeding to Formula that it's best to do it slowly so kinda weaning them instead of going cold turkey...... can you still sometimes express? so she's still getting a bit of breast milk and then other feeds she gets formula?? if you only express once a day your milk will still be drying up but you can still get a bit out iykwim? I'd say she's getting used to formula now instead of b/milk perhaps?? do you think?
or has she got reflux/colic perhaps?
You are the BEST Mummy for Bianca...... remember that

She was getting topped up in hospital on formula - so she has always kind of been having it! i cant express anymore have been told not too now that im on pill and milk is drying up cause of the mastitis - plus dont think i have much in them anymore anyway!
Also ladies sorry for this yucky question - but when is the bleeding suppose to stop after giving birth - and are clots normal? im talking pretty decent sized ones?
oh and while im at it - any thoughts on constipation? i havent been for 10days now - too scared too cause i got stitches and i still have hemorrhoids (awfully sorry for tmi) i have got some medication but that dosent seem too be helping!
im really not enjoying any of this!
