Man... IKWYM, my mum can't remember us ever having a tantrum. MIL says "oh well... .its all normal". Then she comments on every little move the girls make
Matilda's tantrums were labelled as extreme by GP's, paediatricians and social workers... so I felt better knowing that what she was doing was extreme, but at the same time everyone had to comment on how it was my fault in someway. Actually coming closer to a diagnosis of Asperger's gives me heaps of relief knowing there isn't much I could do for her anyway.
Jovie tantrums... I thought I was let off easy the second time around... but she does. She certainly knows what she wants & I think has learnt that if she has to have, she has to do something about it. Last night she finished dinner and left the table.... there was a lot of "Sit down Jovie" and a whole lotta "NO!" going on. DH started to get frustrated, but I said "nah, not our battle tonight" and let her go.
One of the best things a child psychologist said to me when Matilda was 2 was "Pick your battles". I kept saying "but but but" but he was right. He said your battle this week is "staying at the dinner table" and thats it. Unless its a safety issue, don't battle it. IF it is a safety issue say "you are going to the thinking chair because you didn't listen to mummy & its unsafe" and leave it there.... don't waste energy and time over those battles....
I forgot about that advice actually.... I think it will help with this move. Jovie's been a right turd, up again last night for a few hours. Matilda's been a gem in comparison!!! LOL... never thought I'd ever say that.

Bizarre Christy! I just gave DH the whole 'pick your battles' speech today!
yes, evie is fantastic at pushing my buttons, but i read an article somewhere (i'm desperately trying to find it now) about tantrums and how when toddlers do tantrum they are in a certain amount of physical pain but because they are so immature they just cant stop it...so us getting angry really just perpetuates it..sometimes its helpful to remember that when its happening and you can feel sympathetic...SOMETIMES lol
Hope all those sick bunnies are feeling better soon!
I cant believe we've rolled back round to birthdays again already!!!!!!
Have a great day with Sophie tomorrow Jols!!

we have a naughty corner at our house. which it didn't take long for aston to understand. the only problem now is that if I say to him "Stop (doing whatever he is doing) aston or you will have to go to the naughty corner" he goes and puts himself there! I'm not sure if he is going... yeah well right, I'll just put myself there then, what are you going to do about it or if he thinks sod it - i'll just get it over and done with!

We started norty corner yesterday and Chelsea does what Aston does....only problem we are having is she stays for 5 secs..thinks she is 'good' again and takes off.....put her back, screams, goes quite....then takes off again.
So i dont think thats going to work for us either

It took Matilda ages Kim. In fact, she still does that if I'm not serious. We were told that its 1 minute per age of child, and that for the first oh.... 5 days or so if you do it consistently... it would be a continuous thing of saying "NO" and putting them back on the spot. With Matilda, we had to actually lock her in the bathroom because she would bite us and fight us. But that was extreme!! We didn't want to do it, but it was pretty full on.

yeah, i was going to ask what's working for everyone in the discipline department. NOTHING is working here!
naughty spot is just a joke to her, and if i cant send her to her room because she can open the door. oh she can now UNLOCK the front door and let herself out, thank you very much! thank goodness we just finished our fence around the house, it's like fort knox here now!!!
this is my main issue. she loves having play dates with her cousin who is 7months younger. only prob is is that evie just pushes her over aaallll the time. it is so so so draining. i keep saying 'no' and taking her to her room but she just keeps doing it and i while i know my SIL would tell me if she had some discipline ideas for me, i know its just as draining for her because her daughter keeps getting hurt and we just cant take our eyes off them for 2 seconds!
hope you had a beautiful day yesterday Jols
