Marydean, I've pretty much got Alister sorted for Christmas - we've got the big dump truck we didn't give him for this birthday, 2 duplo lego sets, some wooden Thomas trains and a view finder thingy. Oh, and an Esprit towel I was going to get embroidered with his name (got one for each of them in Myer's sales months ago). That's about it really.

Hi ladies,

Well the hot shower, lots of water and bed did the trick and things settled down eventually. Still having strong BH but not as intense and frequent as last night. I think that is just how things will be for me. Oh well.

Re: chrissy presents, Im not sure what to get Hamish, Im not a fan of lots of presents and we have such a large family who all buy for him also so I think a couple of small things will be fine - he's still too young to understand.

Noni - You'd probably enjoy working you know, once you get into the flow of it, its not bad at all. Maybe you can get a job at a childcare center & then put Asha at the same center?

JG - Glad the braxton hicks have stopped.

Chrissy pesents: M will only be getting a couple of pressie from us this year. Her smart trike and something else. Christmas this year is going to be pretty quiet for us, as most of our family are off travelling and also because we have a wedding, honeymoon and Melb trip to save for.

Did anyone else see Renee's Bali pics on facebook? What a lucky duck.

Hi Everyone
Just caught up on posts and now can't remember personals. Sorry... Forgive me...

Not much going on our end. My mum is coming up tomorrow from Brissie for a few days and then I'm heading down there for a week. She was originally catching the train up and then she'd drive down with me to keep S entertained but then we got $10 fares on the tilt train so thought bugger the car. Shes bringing my 3 year old nephew up so figured she'd come up anyway.

Also, moving on this weekend. We get the keys on Sunday and the removalist is coming at 8 in the morning. Unfortunately, my train leaves about 10 ish so I'm not going to be much good at all. Heres hoping that Rory uses common sense when arranging placement of our furniture. Female common sense not male common sense. or should that be Mummy common sense not Daddy common sense. Either way, I'm in for a shock when I get home and see how it looks. Please wish me luck girls.

MD, for christmas I think I will get W a set of Baby Einstein DVDs. We don't have t.v and he hasn't been that keen when I show him dvds of Elmo, little people etc but DH showed him a Baby Einstein clip the other night and he loved it, waving about and pointing. They seem to have the little clips just long enough that he doesn't lose interest before it shifts to the next one. TBH I thought they were a bit of a have and I don't think it will turn him into a genius but I am hoping they will be a good filler for the end of the day when I have run out of ideas and am waiting for DH to come home lol. We will also get him some sort of outside toy - a wagon or little toddler climbing thing. That is probably all because he will get a few smaller things from the rest of the family. My aunt also had a crazy long labour and when they finally c-sectioned bub out they discovered she had a squarish pelvis and his head was all bruised from being squished against it.

JG, glad things have settled down re the BH's. I remember what a pain it was for you last time. Have you had the GD test yet?

Kate, well done at avoiding the moving! $10 trains fares are a bargain!

Leanne, bummer about all the doctors visits, but great to hear that J is doing well in the poo department.

I have just ordered William's bed. I got a king single. I am going to start him having day naps in there when it arrives and hopefully move him into it for night sleeps after we have been away at christmas time. He is still waking about 4 times a night so I am not sure how it will go....

well as youknow I dont do xmas but if i did i would be looking for an outdoor play equip set for the little man (little tikes make some good ones) and/or a smart trike! wow you get your babies a lot i must say - i am sure little N will be whingeing in the yrs to come when he sees all the other kids getting all these presents!! LOL!
at what age do we think about beds? well what stage I guess??? i am thinking N will move sometime in the next 6 months, but guess he has to be walking? he also still wakes most nights a few times so keen to hear how you go Arte. Lucky boy with a king single. also do you use sleeping bags in a bed?
JG glas things have settled down. How many wks were you when you went on bedrest with Hamish? Hope that doesnt happen again honey.
Arte - yep i have told my PIL and BIL/SIL and also, of course, my Mum and also my 2 best friends. no one else will know (aside from you guys) til 12 wk scan is done. it doesnt make dealing w the nausea/tiredness easy when no one knows whats up. and i am so bloated i reckon a lot of ppl think i have been indulging a little too much! I hope it happens for you soon, i am sure it will. xxx

OK, I have a question for you Pregpan LOL. I know you don't do Christmas, and this is something I've always been curious about, but when do you get the 'big ticket' items for your children? (like swings and other stuff we would buy for Christmas) Do you make a huge thing of birthdays or do you just buy through the year kwim? It is hard in the early days when you know why you're feeling so poorly, but can't explain it to anyone else. Fingers crossed you will only have to wait till the magical 12wks till you're feeling better.

Arte, we always put the older ones into a bed when they were 2 (cause by then the baby had outgrown the bassinette and needed the cot LOL). No matter what age you put them in you will still have the initial issues of them getting out of it all the time. It's something you just have to deal with best you can till they get used to getting to bed and going to sleep without getting out of it again. We are getting bunks for the boys (cause their room isn't practical for two single beds) so it probably wont be till he's nearly 2 anyway.

Kate, just think pleasant thoughts when you see the house for the first time when you get back LMAO. I had to deal with the same thing when I went into labour with Lindsay and we'd only just finished moving all our stuff in 2 days before and the previous owners still had all their stuff to move out (but it was all pack ready to go) and I had to leave it up to him to do it while I was in hospital. Luckily he didn't do too bad and I was too tired to care LOL.

Cindy glad to hear that the BH's stopped for you.

hmmm well some ppl compensate by buying presents for channuka instead - i do get N things (and other kids in the family) but I dont want to set it up like channuka = xmas as that isnt really right (usually smaller pres)... there are other times of the yr he will get stuff and his bday is a big deal (as i guess it is for everyone) but i guess i would just get it for him in the yr? not sure....

I had the first BT at 14 weeks and result were great - no sign of GD. I still need to do the standard 28 - 30wk one as this is ususally when things change hormonally I was told. There is no way of telling either, my OB said she's had lot of 2nd time mums that arn't cursed with GD the 2nd time round. Im confident I'll be one of those !!

Preagainpan -Firstly I hope your MS is bearable atm sweet - it's tough hey ! And now to answer your question. I first went into pre-term labour at 28wks with Hamish and then again at 30 wks - both times were stopped with medication and a stay in hospital then I had to stop work and get as much bedrest as possible which then at times was changed to complete bedrest when things flared up again.

I had done a good job at forgetting how bad that part of the pregnancy was - except for the fact that that's wen I found you lovely ladies of course !!

Im hoping that I have just been overdoing things and all will calm down soon.

Sherie - How are you feeling ? Are you welcoming or dreading your upcoming surgery. I know sometimes the symptoms were so bad that you could actually look forward to the surgery as you needed the relief. I've been thinking of you dear.

Wishing you luck Kate......... Why can't I be busy when we moved...thats a great idea, furniture can always be re-arranged but moving sux majorly.

BTW you all might remember my ***** a few weeks back about the house we are renting being on the market - well it sold at auction for $25K less than the owners paid for it less than 12 months ago...... now just waiting to hear what the new owners intend on doing......Will I or won't I be moving with a 4 week old bubba ??

Pregpan - Well I must say I am slightly envious of you, sometimes I wish we didnt do christmas either! Such a stressful time. Maddie is still in grobags, I love them they work well for us. Hope that ms wears off soon, its horrible!

Arte - Yay congrats on the big boy bed.

JG - I hope they wont make you move with your 4 week old. Wow the owners would be spewing at the sale price.

Trillian - When is the op?

I'm reading a book on autism at the moment, just a quick question for you ladies who didnt do the MMR vaccination, is that due to the fear of autism?

H, nah, I didn't get the MMR because of that, it just didn't sit right with me to do it when he had his food sensitivities, eczema and reflux etc so I didn't want to upset his system any further by giving it to him. Of course it was in my mind about MMR and Autism, but that alone didn't play a part in the decision. Are you worried about it at all?

Thanks Cindy its on the 5/12. I'm not worried but I am kwim? I think I'm more worried about having a general anaesthetic LOL. But I am looking forward to it if I means I can just get on with things again. that's great that you didn't have a sign of it with the 14wk test. My best friend had it with her first and she got a high reading at the 14wk test with her second and she ended up with it quite bad again, but she is predisposed to it anyway as she was older and overweight etc. My Mum got it with her last term pg very bad (again she was predisposed to it) and after my brother was born she had a surprise pg (thought she was starting menopause) and her levels skyrocketed to nearly 50. She had to end the pg as it was too risky for her health to continue it. Oh and fingers crossed the new owners of the house are happy to either let you stay, or stay long enough so you aren't moving with a newborn.

Pregpan, thanks for answering that for me I can totally get why you wouldn't want that celebration to turn into a quasi-Christmas because that would sort of defeat the purpose of not celebrating it I suppose.

Trillian - Not worried really, but its just a scary thought and this book has got my mind ticking. To think we could be endangering our children with these vaccinations, it worries me because I've always thought I'm doing the right thing getting her vaccinated, but then you hear these stories from parents of autistic children. Do you worry at all that Alister may pick up a bug down the track from not being vaccinated? Did you vaccinate all your other children? I guess I just feel very uninformed about it all...

I get what you're feeling ATM H. I felt that by objecting to Alister having any more vaccinations was the FIRST time I'd made an informed choice about it kwim? The oldest two are fully vaccinated according to their schedules (there are a few extras on there now that weren't when they were babies) and Paige didn't have her 4yo vacces, so she's vaccinated to that point. There are some I just don't agree with on principal too - like the meningococcal/pnuemococcal vaccs because they only vaccinate for 1 strain of the disease and there are three of them they could possibly get - so you vax for one and they get the other kwim? I'm also not worried about him catching anything. I used to be a supporter for the Chicken pox vaccine, but am now against it when I learnt that it's success rate isn't terribly high and that even if vaccinated you can still get shingles as an adult. I would much rather he get measles or chicken pox than be vaccinated against it as it will provide him a better immunity than if he didn't get it. I have had German measles as a child and I still have a great immunity from it. I have also had chicken pox. That said I think our relative risk of getting anything is very small - I'm not relying on herd immunity, just that they aren't in 'high risk' places to catch them. We are pretty isolated out here where we live and I think that they are healthy enough and if you maintain a great immune system by way of good gut health I think that also cuts a lot of the risk.

MM are you reading Jenny thingy's book off Oprah yesterday? She was pretty convincing but you have to remember that the particular component of the MMR Vaccine that is suspected as having the causative effect is not used in Australian vaccines and hasn't been for years. It's also an unfortunate coincidence that the MMR vaccine was always given around the 18 mth mark which is when autistic signs usually start to emerge - even in non-vaccinated children. That's why the schedule was changed recently, so that fewer people assume the vaccine caused the autism. Just remember that measles has been on the rise in recent years so if you don't vaccinate now you might want to do it later when M is a bit older, kwim?

OK on the Christmas front - had a little shop-stomp by myself today and got it all sorted. Elisabeth is finally getting her wheelybug (cheap from ebay), a flipout sofa (20% off at Kmart), an ELC balancing snail, and (2nd hand) the FP talking dog soft toy (you press its hand and it says "hand", etc). They had the radio flyer tricycles half price at ToysRUs so I bought one of those but am undecided: it might stay in the cupboard until she turns 2. From memory that was how old H was when she got her first tricycle. If we decide to hold the tricycle over then she might get a wooden pull along toy as well. And that's IT. The difficulty we have is that we have to cart it all the way to Adel under top secret conditions LOL. I don't think she'll get many pressies from the grandparents this year because Nan & Pop in QLD have taken to sending money ( Seriously how HARD is it to spend 20 mins in Big W picking something out for a 1 year old) and her Grandma who's always done the chrissy shopping is now nearly blind and has trouble getting out.

Pregpan it might sound like a lot but I don't usually buy toys inbetween Christmas/birthdays so it's got to last her until she turns 2, kwim? With DD1 it was easy because her birthday is in June so it was new toys every 6 months. I'm really enjoying being able to buy what I want to this time round instead of just getting the very cheapest thing because that's all we could afford with DD1. So E has much nicer quality toys than H ever did.

Arte, good luck with the big bed! Like Trill we waited until DD1 was 2 and a bit...but we can take the side off the cot so she had a little practice in a smaller bed for a couple of months first.

ETA - Trill agree 100% on maintaining good immunity from good gut health. My friend has a son with Aspergers - he is VERY sensitive to food issues and she sees a huge improvement when she can keep him gluten and dairy free for any period of time (which in itself is really hard and sometimes impossible). But she's working on the total load theory and reduces where she can.
