Default Local Anaesthetic and Pregnancy

Hey Guys,

Woo hoo - i need a filling, a really deep one. It cant wait till the baby is born (if, of course, it sticks). The Dentist told me that it is not safe to use any anaesthetics while pregnant.

Is this true? I am a wuss and scared!

What a big fat porkie you've been told. It is perfectly safe to have a local for dental work - I was a dental nurse in a past life and we gave them to pg woman, and I've had them myself when I've been pg. They are only 1 or 2% anyway, and they are local - it's not like you're going completely under.

Um, yeah, big fat lie! I've been a dental nurse for 10 years, and I've never come across that one! Sure, there are some anaesthetics that aren't used on pg women, but dentists usually have a least couple to choose from, they have to.

I wouldn't be waiting until the baby is here, if it's a deep filling you could run into problems later in your pg, and need ABs and all sorts. And have you heard the saying that it's easier to take a baby in utero to the dentist, rather than in a pram

Think about finding another dentist and getting the work done. And if you're really concerned about it, maybe wait until after the 12 week mark.

What a load of cr@p
It is safer to have your filling when pregnant than to take the chance on getting an infection that could cause harm to you and possably your baby. Find a new dentist and get your filling
